"As a former user of mixing Xanax and alcohol, I will never do it again after seeing this film.”
- Student, Winchester High School (MA)
The challenges our teens face today are greater than ever before and teen fatality from prescription drug misuse is on the rise. Beyond recreational abuse, teens today who are struggling with their emotional health are increasingly turning to illicit prescription drugs purchased online or off the street for self medication. Teens misusing and abusing prescription drugs (for any reason) needs to end. Educating and reaching teens with life-saving information regarding the misuse and abuse of prescription drugs is critical to saving lives.
"If They Had Known" is a 35-minute film, that delivers real information in a unique way. It, combined with the Program Toolkit, sparks essential peer-to-peer conversations about these risks and equips them with information to help save their life or, the life of a friend.
The new release of "If They Had Known" shares the tragic stories of Clay and Drew, two young men who lost their lives due to prescription drug misuse. At 19, Clay died from mixing prescription drugs with alcohol at a party, while Drew, at 23, lost his life at 23 after unknowingly taking counterfeit Xanax he purchased online to help manage his anxiety. Two stories, two deaths…neither should have happened.
The film begins with an honest account of Clay’s last night, where a mix of Xanax and alcohol led to an accidental death. Told by his friends who were there, it presents an impactful example of an avoidable death. Drew’s story follows, highlighting his tragic journey from addiction to death after unknowingly purchasing fentanyl-laced Xanax online when his anxiety became too much to handle.
Clay died because he had no idea that mixing prescription drugs with alcohol could be fatal. Drew died because he had no idea of the risks he was taking by purchasing illicit prescription drugs online or off the street. With the rise of counterfeit pills and the spread of powerful synthetic opioids like fentanyl, the risks are even more severe than in the past. Educating and reaching teens with life-saving information regarding prescription drug misuse is critical to saving lives.
Join us in spreading awareness and preventing further tragedies. By sharing these two tragic stories, we are able to reach a wide of young people. "If They Had Known" is available for lease to schools and communities and is avaiilable for individual rental on AMAZON and Google Play.
